MELODI SCHONKEN (CHILDREN'S PASTOR)
A native Californian, Melodi grew up in a pastor’s home and had a loving example of dedicated and balanced Christian parents. She started working in children’s ministry when she was 12 years as a pre-school Sunday School teacher. At that time, she “caught the vision,” and her heart continued to grow for ministry to children and their families.
After High School, she attended Vanguard University of Southern California. During that time she worked as an intern in the Children’s Department at South Coast Community Church (which is now Mariner’s Church) in Irvine, CA. She worked as a Resident’s Assistant in the girls dorm and was involved in many outreaches to Mexico, inner city Long Beach and the Middle East.
She met her husband, Pastor Iann Schonken, who was a student there. After completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science, Psychology, she received her California Teacher’s Credential and taught as a public school teacher for ten years. She went on to receive her Masters in Education at the University of Phoenix in 2002.
Melodi has traveled with her husband in evangelistic work, ministered in the U.S. and Brazil, and was also the Crusade Coordinator for Tim Storey Ministries. She is currently serving as the KIDZ Pastor here at Family Fellowship Church. She has a heart for the children and their families in this area.
She is also Director/Facilitator of the Women’s Ministries at FFC, and is finding that God is anointing her “for such a time as this” to lovingly lead and connect women to fulfill the calling of God on their lives.
